Normally something magical happens in BN state...
I jump in the car, put on my podcasts and zoom to Red State. Under 6 hours in my little tan Toyota (regular engine, 40+MPG), and I'm in Red State. I sail down the highway, not really seeing corn state -- I'm in my on little world of cruse control, podcasts and road munchies.
Not this time .... Thanks to Mother nature. It seems that Corn state doesn't like to use salt on their roads... So, I had an option -- be in the lane were the plow had recently been... no snow, but patches of black ice OR be in the snowy lane and concentrate on being in the path the trucks took.... That was my choice for most of my southward trip into Corn State.
Thank goodness once I left Corn state's "city" and was able to turn west, the roads were much better and I could get up to the speed limit.
So, a 6ish hour trip (one I've made in just over 5.... yea, some speeding there...) took me nearly 8.
The Counting Crows song "Omaha" was never quite so sweet....
