Travel update -- Steamboat Springs, CO

On Friday night and Saturday morning I did the best things to do in Omaha... M's pub, the Omaha Farmer's Market and a GREAT haircut at Fringes salon, Old Market (ask for one of the Rusk educators). We also saw where hubby will be living next fall...

Saturday we drove to Denver and had dinner at Sweet Tomatoes, a salad bar restaurant. Then we went to the second-best bookstore in the world, the Tattered Cover... (Powell's, Portland is best).

Today we intended to cross Rocky Mountain National Park to get to Steamboat.. but, a rockslide on Trailridge road stopped us... so... we went around, via the back roads -- the Jeep loved it. Now we are here, the condo is really nice and I'm sure we'll be comfortable this week.

Where are you staying in Steamboat?

If you don't know the town (locations are from memory, don't trust them)...

...get a malt at Johnny B Good's (On Lincoln Ave. at about 6th street [or 9th?])

...eat excellent Mexican food at La Cantina (On Lincoln, somewhere between 5th and 8th)

...get coffee at Mocha Molly's (it's in this odd little shopping complex on the river side of lincoln ave, I think on the corner of 9th street)

...eat the best BBQ sandwiches in the world at ZZ (double-Z), it's on the river road toward the northwest end of town.

...watch the Kayakers in the Sea Hole; on the river at the far northwest end of town, by the library

...take your jeep up rabbit ears peak--at the top of rabbit ears pass. There's a jeep trail most of the way up, leaving a 200 yard steep climb to the top. it's worth it. stop in at the forest service station (as you're coming into town, it's before you get to the ski hill, on the left) for directions

...drive to buffalo pass. turn off lincoln on third street, follow the signs toward the fish creek falls road, i think there's a sign marking where to turn off for buffalo pass; i vaguely remember it being the same road as to the hot springs. the top of the road is probably still closed due to snow, but that area is absolutely gorgeous and quite off the beaten path

...explore the flat tops. about 50 miles south of steamboat, probably the neatest wilderness area i've ever hiked through.

Awsome suggestions ... thanks! We are supposed to be working most of the time, but we'll get out and do a few things this week :).
